The agency's final report regarding a motor vehicle incident in a city in British Columbia, where a person died. On a date in 2012, members of the traffic section were conducting a targeted traffic enforcement operation in response to complaints from the public of speeding and aggressive driving in the area. The members involved were also using an Automated License Plate Recognition system to monitor passing traffic. Members attempted to stop a vehicle identified by the system as being associated with a prohibited driver. The vehicle failed to stop and fled, and two unmarked vehicles attempted to catch up but discontinued their attempts shortly thereafter. The fleeing vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a semi-trailer truck, causing the trailer to collide with a third vehicle driven by the affected person. The affected person sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and died at the scene. The incident was investigated under the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act, Subsection 45.72(2).
